Summer is here and water is everywhere! Pools and waterparks are opening up, families are road tripping to beaches to relax near the water. YES, water plays a major part of all the fun that is Summer. Did you know that water plays a major role in your overall health? Without a doubt, it is very important to eat healthy and exercise, but to keep functioning properly you need water to keep you going and hydrated.

Here’s the deal, according to research conducted by the Mayo Clinic, more than half of Americans suffer from a lack of water to their bodies also known as chronic dehydration. Even more surprising is that you, yes YOU, could be dehydrated right now and not even know it. Why is this a problem? Being chronically dehydrated, leads to many health issues like migraines, asthma & allergies, and joint problems such as arthritis to name a few. It is recommended by the Institute of Medicine that we drink 10 cups of water daily. But, how many of us really get in 10 cup a day?


How do I know if i’m dehydrated? Listen to your body and look for symptoms like:

  • Dry mouth and swollen tongue
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness & Palpitations (feeling that the heart is jumping or pounding)
  • Confusion
  • Sluggishness
  • Fainting
  • Inability to sweat
  • Decreased urine output

What the best way for me to ensure I stay hydrated:

  • Drink good ole H2O. Avoid Sugary drinks, alcohol and soda. Get the recommended 10 cups is great!
  • Eat your Fruits & Veggies. Summer-friendly fruits and veggies can keep you hydrated. Next time you’re feeling thirsty, pile on the watermelon, cucumbers and salad to your plate.













Make sure to take a sip or two of water whenever you feel thirsty or dry mouth coming on. Mild thirst is a sign of impending dehydration. Listen to your body and use these tips to stay hydrated during summer fun :-).
